The towns of Castelli Romani are sixtheen: Albano Laziale, Ariccia, Castel Gandolfo, Colonna, Frascati, Genzano di Roma, Grottaferrata, Lanuvio, Lariano, Marino, Monte Compatri, Monte Porzio Catone, Nemi, Rocca di Papa, Rocca Priora, Velletri. This geographical area is full of typical products, like the "porchetta" of Ariccia, bread and porcini mushrooms of Lariano, the chestnuts of Rocca di Papa, the strawberries of Nemi, the wine of Frascati, even if it is amazing in all the countries of Castelli Romani, thanks to the particular morphology of the territory, on the slopes of the Colli Albani.

The lake

The lake is the fourth volcanic water basin in the region and it is the deepest with 170 meters deep. Also called lake of Castel Gandolfo, the biggest of Colli Albani, it originated from the union of the two volcanic craters, in fact it has an elliptical cone shape downwards. It is 293 meters above sea level, 3.5 kilometers long and 2.3 kilometers large with a surface of 6 sq. Km. It is famous for its beauty and for the lovely countries around, very famous in the world and in the Roman culture: Castel Gandolfo over the lake, and not so far Marino and Albano, Ariccia, Genzano, there is also a second lake, the Lake of Nemi, near the ruins of Alba Longa, the historical enemy of Roman Empire.
